Sailor Hats and Newsboy Caps

So they're back! Sailor Hats and Newsboy Caps are back, and setting the trend for this season.

Looking back through the years I first remember wearing this style of hat when I was just 10 years old. I vividly remember purchasing two of the same kind; one for me and one for my nanny. I was as proud as punch walking through the village holding her hand, thinking I would one day be taking part in the London Catwalk (little did I know I only had a few inches left in me to grow haha).

It's funny how fashion brings back so many memories. I was always looking forward to the next trend as a child and without a care in the world, I was brave enough to embrace it! (Truth be told I'm not just as confident now)

I'm sure you've heard your grandmother at some stage say "Oh I remember owning one just like that" Or "We used to wear those in our day". My nanny usually proceeds this sentence with "when I was young an skinny".

It's true what they say you know, the beauty of fashion is it's cycle that allows us to relive some of the most iconic pieces that generations before us wore. So this post I devote to my sailor cap, my nanny's hat and her beauty that I long to endure ... that's right "I got it from my Nanna"

The best proposal ever ...

Evening all,

As many of you know, this weekend was the best one of many before and many weekends that lie ahead!

I am absolutely over the moon to call my childhood sweetheart  now my "fiancĂ©" - ah!  I am still not used to this. But anyway I promise I won't bore you with the the soppy / lovey dovey elements to this weekend, however I just want to share with you just how amazing the place in which it happened was.

I was completely oblivious as to where I was being taken for the "Easter Weekend Break"...

As we made our way up the Motorway I kind of half guessed that it was the beautiful Galgorm Resort & Spa. We were greeted at reception and escorted to the Deluxe Suite upon arrival by a very kind gentleman. The Deluxe room was absolutely beautiful I have a video that I shared on my Instagram here . We had a beautiful view out onto The Thermal Village, greenery and lake.

We later that afternoon had exclusive use of our own private hot tub which sat just off the river it was beautiful and of course that was where it all happened! It was truthfully phenomenal we had our own bottle of champagne and truffles to celebrate. The concierge who led us down to the hot tub only too well knew what was to come.

He was absolutely amazing as were the rest of the team at the Galgorm. It was all the little added extras. How the staff in the Spa, Restaurant, Gin Library and  at Breakfast greeted us when we arrived, chatted and had a laugh with us no matter where we were!! We felt so so special. When we arrived back to the room after Jonny proposed we had a card congratulating us on our engagement as well as delicious cupcakes. We dined at the restaurant and were congratulated by the waitress (who was clearly informed by the team) with even more prosecco - I wasn't complaining!  When we  later returned to the room after a night of celebrating there was the love heart kissing swans and rose petals laid on the bed!

We spent two of the most amazing days together enjoying our special weekend the staff at the Galgorm Resort and Spa covered all corners and left no leaf unturned.  I hand on heart have never been in a Hotel that treated their guests with such kindness, generosity and the most sincerest gratitude.

We toasted to the best weekend over afternoon tea on Monday before departing, which was beautiful again with scenic views and beautiful food! I know there have been thousands of proposals at the Galgorm but according to Jonny during the maniac research phase of "where and how to pop the question" the Galgorm stood out from 100s. During the preparation stage the staff were more than accommodating. They were at the other end of the phone with any query he had and had all the "what if's" answered.

Really my fiancé and I would like to thank the staff at The Galgorm Resort & Spa for making our special weekend and engagement even more special!

Vanity Vs Real Influence in Northern Ireland; NorthStar Supper Club

Good Morning everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed my insta live updates at the NorthStar Supper Club event I attended on Thursday evening. A lot of my followers were gutted that they couldn't get a ticket so I thought that live videos on Instagram were the best way to keep everyone updated -  if you didn't see it, follow me here for next time!

The evening was top class and held in the all exclusive Merchant Hotel!! We were greeted with a glass of Skinny Prosecco (and I was later sat at the table with those who founded this beautiful drink, they were an absolute pleasure!)

When I entered I got chatting with the lovely Leah and Lynsey who have launched the all new Lusso Tan! I am very excited to try this tan particularly as it's a local brand and you know I love Northern Irish brands!  I am rolling out a competition soon for you lovely lot so you can try it too! All you need to do is follow me on Instagram here and tag a friend beneath the competition post.

I also had the opportunity to meet the beautiful and extremely hard working Diane McStay from The Style Studio Blog. I am sure you follow her already I DO! But if not check out all her fabulous hints and tips here

When we entered the room we got to meet the beautiful Louise Rumball of We are chapter three! This is an influencer marketing agency that was founded by Louise herself based in London and glam Dubai. The purpose of this agency is to connect brands with appropriate Influencers who have followers that are aligned with the brands target audience

Now I really empathise the term appropriate. That doesn't mean the influencers with the greatest following, those are simply vanity measures. It is so important for brands especially within Northern Ireland to ask bloggers, vloggers and social influencers who their fanbase are? What is the gender split? The age demographic of your audience? The geographic spread of your following? Just because you are an influencer based within Northern Ireland does not necessarily mean that you have an abundant of followers from Northern Ireland and aligned with a brands target audience.

This information is absolutely essential for both brands and influencers. As my background is Digital Marketing I really understood the importance of understanding my audience. I know that there are a lot of influencers within Northern Ireland who have the vanity measures the 10k plus followers on instagram or whatever platfrom they utilise, but what is the make-up of these 10,000. Are they an audience that a brand wants to work with? OR is this product a product that your followers want to know about? It works both ways!

If there are any influencers out there who are not sure how to get the breakdown of their fanbase then please drop me an email I would be more than happy to help you.

Louise mentioned that this is the way influencer marketing is in London. It won't be long before brands within Northern Ireland begin asking local influencers and bloggers the same questions.

What is reassuring for my lovely followers is that the vanity measures are irrelevant. As a new and recent blogger I was so glad to have met other bloggers who have also just started out and are aspiring to get to that 10k follower mark and I just want to provide reassurance from Louise that whether you have less than 1, 2, 3  or 4k followers you're still an influencer!

Brands need to reach out to influencers who have the skill and hobby that they enjoy; speaking and recommending products to their family, friends and followers! Followers and friends trust recommendations from micro influencers. So to all my fellow blogging troopers out there keep going! The vanity measures do not matter you have 500 - 5k highly engaged followers! Trust me you have influence!!!

If there are any brands or bloggers out there that have any questions, again please reach out. This analytical side (is what I do for a living) you might think its boring but I find it interesting and would be more than happy to recommend ways for you to understand your following.

Lots of Love,

The Village Girl

Bravo Belfast Fashion Week

Good evening all,

I hope you had a great weekend - oh and a Happy Mother's Day to all the yummy mummies out there.

I kicked off the weekend with a bang at WestCoast Cooler Belfast Fashion week which took place at Life Church.

For all you that follow me on instagram I kept you up to date - @thevillagegirlblog follow me here

There were some fantastic pieces, particulary from DV8 Fashion and Narah and Co both local fashion outlets were outstanding. It was great to see the vibrant colours of spring and the statement capes - all of which are my favourite.

I am a massive fan of tailoring and both these boutiques were on point. From jumpsuits, two pieces and dresses! I will definitely be visiting DV8 in store and Narah and Co  online boutique (hopefully the pieces I spied are still available).

I wore a statement bold berry red jumpsuit from SilkFred, which can be bought for just £30 it can be found here  I got so many compliments and it was so comfortable!!

Monday Motivation - Try something new ...

Hi Everyone,

I hope you're having a fantastic Monday (Ok I know they aren't fantastic but I hope you made the most of it).

Last week was a crazy one for me, but in a really exciting way! It was super busy, but full of new opportunities. At one stage I thought - what is going on? Is this real? Am I getting lucky?

So here it goes ...

On Tuesday I spent the evening at the fabulous Be. You. tiful salon I had the best make up lesson with a Ciara daly make up artist, had my nails done and met the amazing owner Jenny and her crazy but oh so talented team! I was also given the opportunity to meet a few fellow bloggers which was lovely! Check out the salon here

So on Wednesday I signed up to another Post Grad - ok I know you think I am crazy but I am excited! Despite this being the 3rd post graduate course since graduating almost a year and a half ago, I just can't have a dull moment. Clearly spare time isn't for me!  So I am embarking upon the Digital Ready Leaders course with the great Digital DNA and Ulster University which begins Monday 20th - wish me luck! Check out the course here

On Thursday an exciting opportunity (yet to be revealed) came my way. It is a programme that I will keep you posted on, its exciting, somewhat healthy and a tad exhausting . But it will deliver results and I like results - so I will reveal all very soon but for now stay patient.

On Saturday with all the change during the week I thought sod it - new opportunities, new me! I got my hair cut not overly short but something new.  I can always rely on Hair Flair to keep it new and exciting. I have been going here for 6 years now and I never leave disappointed. Check out their work here

So whilst last week was busy it put me in good stead for this week. Its true what they say you know - hard work pays off!

I hope you have the best week, oh and do something new, something different, something you would normally say no to - you just never know where it might lead to!

Create a Flawless Look on a Budget ...

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all having a lovely FriYAY - it's finally the weekend!!

That mean's that it's time to get glammed up!

Tonight I created a look on a budget. It's true that we don't need to spend a fortune on makeup to create a flawless and fresh look. The reality is that the high street have some beautiful products that give us equally defined cheekbones and that enviable pout!

This week I popped into my go-to place; Gordon's Chemist to fill my makeup bag and stock up on fake-tan.

Tips and tricks to create a flawless look on a budget

1. Rimmel London Fix & Protect Primer

The first step in applying makeup is primer!  Makeup primer is the base for foundation which allows foundation to go on smoother and last longer.
The Rimmel London Fix & Protect primer is a light cream that when applied leaves no residue or oil. I would have fairly oily skin and it is important that I find a primer that doesn't leave my skin looking shiny.

2.  Rimmel London Match Perfection

The hardest step in choosing a foundation is finding the perfect colour. On a night out a warmer tone of foundation to blend in with the faketan, is a must. Match Perfection, has a range of colours suitable for all skin tones. The coverage is also fantastic, for anyone with blemishes or acne scaring you can be rest assured that this will give you full coverage! Find it here

3. Rimmel London Matte Pressed Powder

A colourless setting powder is the next step in ensuring that your foundation stays matte and non-oily. The Stay Matte Rimmel pressed powder for just £3.99 in Gordon's Chemist is perfect! Find it here

4. Rimmel Sculpting Palette by Kate

If you want your makeup bag to zip close then you will agree that a 3 in 1 compact powder which contours, blushes and highlights your cheekbones is the perfect solution. £6.99 in Gordon's Chemist for 3 amazing tones!  Find it here

5. Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara (Extreme Black)

Finding a good mascara is always difficult. Rimmel London Scandaleyes is ideal for an everyday look or with a couple additional layers it is perfect for a night out. For only £6.99 it really is a bargain.  Find it here

6.  Rimmel Exaggerate, Lip Liner Definer Eastend Snob

It's all in the lips! For  an everyday look a nude lip that is long lasting after 101 coffees is a must! Exaggerate, colour Eastend Snob is beautiful. It gives a defined lip, making your lipstick look better and last longer! Find it here

7. Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick

To finish off the look this 'naughty nude' Only 1 lipstick leaves a glossy shine, giving the lip a more fuller look. Again only £6.99 from Gordon's Chemist.  Find it here

The finished look ...

My treatment for dull and damaged skin ...

Good evening everyone,

How was your weekend?

Mine was crazy busy and with a night out on Friday - I was in for a long and sleepless weekend.

On Saturday morning I booked in with the lovely Bronagh my Dermatologist. I contacted Bronagh two weeks ago because my skin was not in great condition at all. I don’t know about any of you but the cold weather has really dried out my skin. I have found my skin really bumpy and just generally dull and drained.

So with that in mind I treated myself to the skinbase microdermabrasion.

It was fantastic!

The treatment itself was really relaxing and didn't hurt at all. All you feel is a slight suction on your face, the suction helps promote new collagen and elastin formation. It is also said to treat achne scaring and is a hit amongst up and coming brides!

The treatment can be used to solve a wide range of skin concerns on both the face and body. Microdermabrasion provides immediate and visible results for ageing skin, lines and wrinkles, open pores, blackheads, pigmentation, blemish scars, acne scars, stretch marks and so much more.

You’ll see the difference after just one treatment; however  it was advised that for more problematic skin, a course of treatments may be required.  So I will be returning!  I couldn't believe the difference in my skin. It felt so smooth, looked radiant and actually brand new after just one treatment!!

This treatment is on offer in Chic Beauty Clinic at just £25.

Highly recommended...

Get the glow with Benefit Cosmetics ...

Evening all,

I hope you all had a lovely Sunday, whatever you got up to.

I always think Sundays are a day for relaxing, but also for meeting family and friends.

So whilst the first half of the day I was occupied in bed watching Gilmore Girls. The afternoon consisted of the grocery shop and then off for Sunday brunch with my bestie.

Before I headed though I promised Benefit Cosmetics that I would review their Sugar licious set - which was by no means a duty, always a pleasure.

If I am honest Benefit is part of my everyday routine, however, this little kit really sent my cheekbones on forever !!!

This kit came with a step by step guide which is nice. I love their tips and tricks!

Benefit High Beam is amazing it instantly highlights your cheekbones giving them serious definition. I use high beam most days as I think it really sets your bronzer.  I used he Hoola bronzer for beneath my cheekbone, hairline and beneath the chin, but then applied Sugarbomb blush on the actual cheekbone to accelerate the highlight even more.

The lip and cheek tint is also amazing. I use it more often on my lips as you're assured a long lasting plump and radiant lip for hours (even when the lippy wears off you can always rely on this).

Gloss is something I usually wear at the weekends, not so much to work but this as you can see is a really a soft gloss that gave my lips a real shine. This tied in really nicely to the overall look...

Would you agree??
